SACP to present Sports Analytics panel at Datapalooza 2021
The Sports Analytics Club Program (SACP) will present Sports Analytics for Fostering Cutting-Edge Data Science and Expanding the Community on Nov. 19 at Datapalooza 2021: Learning In Action.
Datapalooza is an annual conference hosted by the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science that brings together more than 500 attendees from across higher education, industry, and the greater data science community.
SACP CEO and founder Robert “Dean” Clayton will guide the Sports Analytics conversation, with the following panelists participating:
Katherine Evans, Vice President of Research and Information Systems, Monumental Basketball;
Jonathan Hay, Vice President — Data, Intelligence & Analytics, Boston Red Sox;
Paul Lockhart-Korris, Senior Manager, Business Strategy & Analytics, San Francisco 49ers;
Ben R. Shields, Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School of Management.
For these four panelists, sports analytics is a key component of their work. The audience will learn about the field of sports analytics and its rapid growth in recent years, about the cutting-edge methods and technologies that are used to conduct this work and research, and about the ways that sports analytics provides an exceptional opportunity for increasing the diversity, equity, and inclusion in data science.
This year's Datapalooza theme — "Learning In Action" — is inspired by the interdisciplinary values of data science with the intention to share knowledge and build community.
First launched in 2017, Datapalooza has evolved from a research exposition to a platform where anyone interested in data science can connect with experts and expand their knowledge and skill sets. Designed for students, faculty, professionals, and friends of data science, Datapalooza aligns with the core values of the School of Data Science — to further discovery, share knowledge, and make a positive impact on society through collaborative, open, and responsible data science research and education.
The SACP is pleased to support Datapalooza alongside other sponsors: Leidos, Deloitte, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, LMI, Capital One and QIM.
